Troy Cowin is a criminal defense attorney and has been practicing law for over 15 years in the state of Oklahoma. He started working during law school at the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office in the Juvenile Division. While working as an intern, he had the opportunity to cross-examine a witness during a jury trial. This experience helped him to realize why he was in law school and what he wanted to pursue. Mr. Cowin wanted to be in the courtroom.
Upon graduating and passing the bar exam, he continued working in the Oklahoma Public Defender’s Office in the misdemeanor division. Within a year he was working felony cases and tried his first jury trial. Mr. Cowin defended a multitude of clients against all kinds of charges ranging from public intoxication to murder. While working in the office he experienced countless preliminary hearings and multiple jury trials.
In 2014 he took a position as Deputy Division Chief in Cleveland County working for the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. Mr. Cowin ran the small office and managed a group of attorneys who handled all the criminal indigent cases in Cleveland County. The office he managed represented thousands of clients over the 9 years he worked there.
In 2023, Mr. Cowin took a position with the Federal Public Defender’s Office in the Western District of Oklahoma. This was an exceptional experience for Mr. Cowin to learn the Federal Court system. During his time in the office, he continued to diversify his knowledge in different Federal charges ranging from illegal reentry to murder. He represented multiple clients and tried several jury trials in the short time he was in the Federal Public Defender’s Office.
Mr. Cowin has a passion for representing his clients and being able to stand up for those people who are prosecuted. He loves conflict and relishes the opportunity to be in court fighting for his clients’ rights.
